News Flash: Aging is surprisingly COOL!

by midlifecrisisqueen on December 28, 2013

caterpillar butterflyMy recent one-person survey revealed some surprising results: Aging is far cooler than previously reported!

For as long as I can remember I have heard nothing but bad things about this whole aging thing:         “Oh your body falls apart, you have constant aches and pains.  Your memory lapses and your friends all die.  It’s no fun at all!”   WRONG!

I have been giving this some serious thought lately, and I must say aging is GREAT!  Would you like some examples?

First of all, I have all of these wonderful memories of days gone by, amazing adventures and cool people I have met along the way.  Then, as I listen to songs from my past, great memories return.  I am struck once again by how much better I feel about my life compared to 50, 40 or 30 years ago.

I see how much wisdom and knowledge I have gained, knowledge which has made me feel more comfortable being me.  This accumulated wisdom helps me enjoy life more each day, leading to a more tranquil and self-respecting way of living.

Yes, to put it simply, I feel happy and satisfied with my choices.  I feel so fortunate to be here now, to have been born into this present time in the U.S.A with reasonably good health, endless choices and hope for the future.

For another example from my life, I can summarize the year 2013 in three important personal achievements.  First I published a new book: Find Your Reason to Be Here, where I summarize how ‘midlife’ has provided unique new opportunities for boomers, and I share the BEST WAYS to find new meaning as we age!

View from our new house smallThen I had a fun new adventure down in Ecuador, as I searched out the perfect retirement option for Mike and I.

As a consequence, this month Mike and I bought a few acres down in southern Colorado, the future site of our beautiful new solar home!

Who knew I would be making this kind of progress towards my personal goals at age 58, and also feeling so good about it?

Be sure and set your own goals for the new year and dream BIG!                  Most importantly remember: you need to BELIEVE to ACHIEVE…

Being elderly is great, but so is being young. We have challenges as long as we are alive and we just have to deal with them. It is not about years, but about attitude.

EVERY stage of life is beautiful if we choose to look at it that way. BB for one wouldn’t want to be a teenager nowadays, but I sure did enjoy those years when I was there! At 51 I’ve noticed my views on many things are much looser than they were, which in turn makes me feel younger on many levels, and I love that aspect of getting older. Here from the MB hop and wishing you a Feliz 2014!

Good advice Laura! I think if we look at the more positive aspects of aging then that is a good thing. There is way too much negativity out there. I’m definitely going to keep a positive attitude and live my life to the fullest this year and the next 20 or more!
