The Longest Running Boomer Blog Carnival Ever!

by midlifecrisisqueen on July 21, 2013

Columbine mediumI hear the east coast is hot, humid and sweltering this year, but here in northern Colorado we are having a lovely summer!

The roses, golden banner and columbines have been great, and I am now looking forward to the blooming of my Rose of Sharon.

But, enough about me and my backyard.  What have our boomer bloggers been talking about this week?

SoBabyBoomer puts out a deflation warning to boomers who want to protect their retirement nest eggs.

Between July 19th and August 1st, mature athletes are competing at the National Senior Games in Cleveland. To celebrate active aging, sprint over to The Generation Above Me where Karen lists 23 mature athletes who are swimming, running, climbing, lifting into their 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond!

On The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide, Rita R. Robison, consumer journalist, writes about the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s proposal to limit the amount of inorganic arsenic in apple juice to 10 parts per billion.   Consumer groups, concerned about how the levels of the carcinogen affect children, have been urging the FDA to take action for years.  Consumers can send proposal comments to the FDA by Sept. 13.

Speaking of the heat, Tom Sightings has escaped to a popular retirement/ vacation destination for a week of respite.  Guess where he went over at Where Are We?  – or maybe take a vicarious vacation of your own.

I have been super busy this week, what with the GENFAB bloghop on Monday, about how travel has transformed so many of our lives!    I know I would not be the same person if I hadn’t lived in Bangkok near the end of the Vietnam War.  Scroll down to the bottom of my piece to read lots of other great boomer blog posts about how travel changes lives!

And I’m sure I wouldn’t be so interested in the threat of global warming without so much international travel under my belt.  Why do we respond the way we do to this threat?

Now for something completely different: what do anger, depression and self-compassion have to do with each other?

And in case you’ve ever considered a career change in midlife, this new Huff Post50 piece explains why I chose to do something very different at age 50: “What I have gotten out of writing BESIDES money.”

“Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don’t feel I should be doing something else.”  ~ Gloria Steinem

I added one of your books to my sidebar. The books are all those published by the GenFab group. I love to watch the list grow.

I will reading the Huff Post50 article.

Be well.
