Aging and "OUCH"!

“If it isn’t one thing, it’s another!“ -Rosanna Dana Dana

One aspect of aging that is impossible to ignore is the many brand new aches and pains acquired along the way.  I’ve been unlucky enough to have acquired a colossal case of plantar fascitis lately to accompany my usual arthritis of the back and knee. It’s enough to make me feel almost old.  It seems like everything I do that I think will be good for me, turns out to cause a whole new set of problems.

When I lost my job a while back, I told myself I now had absolutely positively NO excuse not to exercise.  And I have been walking regularly almost everyday since I told myself that. Walking has become my own version of meditation. I love getting outside, being in nature, absorbing lots of vitamin D while observing changes in my neighborhood, etc.

As Dr. Northrup, the expert on older women’s health says, exercise, meditation and sex are the three keys to surviving menopause (or andropause!). And I’ve done my best to keep up in all those areas! I get a kick out of being able to combine two of them on my morning walks.

My own aging mantra is simply,

“Keep moving, in body, mind, and spirit!”

Now I find that I cannot walk very well.  With my cumulative decades of walking everywhere, my foot has given out on me.  Drat!!!  This must be nature’s way of telling me to mix it up a bit.

Of course, bike riding didn’t work out so well in the past.  I don’t know how many more traumatic brain injuries and fractured ribs I can handle!
