Check out this story about how Lee Child turned his life around by becoming a writer of best-selling thrillers after getting fired at 40.
He and I agree: “If you get fired at 40, it’s not about hurt and betrayal and fear. It’s about opportunity…try something. Anything. Sit back, take a breath, believe in yourself, identify your dream, and go for it 110%…Trust me, your motivation will never be as strong. And the chance might never come your way again.”

A few months ago I was downsized out of an organization after 20 years and I’m feeling better than I’ve felt for a long time. At the same time I’ve been reading more and am in the middle of Lee Child’s book called Nothing to Lose.
Sometimes timing is everything and seeing your post certainly bears that out. Thanks!

Now that you’ve been “downsized” I think you should upsize yourself into something more appropriate for your personality and your life! Go out and do something else that you love to do!

Thanks. I working on doing just that!
I was 38 when I was laid off. Ageism was reeling its ugly head even at that early age. (my immediate boss was ten years younger) Unfortunately, it took me a longer time to figure out that writing a novel was my next step. I’m finishing up on the edits on the first book in my family saga. And, I also wrote a script about that experience. I may transform that into a novel. I’m still hoping it will make it to the big screen. I’ll let you know. Thank you for sharing his story.
Great to hear that you are following your dreams. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take! Go for it!!!
