I promise this will not turn into a puppie-focused blog, but I am just astounded at what Rasta, my Shizi puppy, just did!  We had a big blizzard a few days ago, and the snow is just starting to melt out there.

I took Rasta outside because it’s sunny and warm out.  I was reading a book and when I looked up he was up to his neck in MUD!!!  He was actually eating mouthfuls of it!  I ran him inside and Mike helped me give him a quick bath, but now I am perplexed…why is my dog eating mud???

I put it into GOOGLE and came up with this website and blog.  Apparently this type of dog can tend towards mud and poop eating.

Isn’t that PRECIOUS!!!!

The photo above is Rasta looking out from under the roof over his doggie door right after the storm.  We got around 7 inches total of snow.  For some reason it reminded me of that famous old May West saying:

Maybe he is satisfying a craving for a mineral he needs. Often animals that eat poop, do so for nutritional reasons. He is after all a growing pup. When the soil is muddy, it is easier to eat than when it is solid.

Many animals eat mud to get mineral content they are not receiving otherwise. Maybe try a multi-vitamin mixed in with his food?
