I was talking to a friend today about my new puppy Rasta. She reminded me how I had told myself I wouldn’t get a puppy right now. They are so much trouble to potty train, etc.
Then she said: “So why did you get a puppy?” I had to think about that one. It wasn’t one of my most rational decisions, I can assure you!
Getting a puppy is rather like falling in love. You know you’re walking on risky ground. What if you pick the wrong dog [partner]? What if it all turns into a nightmare? What if, what if, what if…
But to quote one of my favorite lines from the movie “Risky Business”: “Sometimes you just have to say ‘what the fuck!’ and make your move.”
And you were thinking that falling in love makes some kind of sense??? WRONG!!!
Your rational mind can only take you so far. Yes, there are limits to rational thought. If we were all rational all of the time, we wouldn’t do most of the things that give us the most enjoyment in life.
Rasta is a complete JOY most of the time. He is a constant reminder of the goofiness of youth. And besides, he just happens to be the cutest puppy in the history of the world. He’s trying to chew on my hair as I type this…this pup can make a toy out of ANYTHING! He HATES to have his face washed, but loves to jump in the shower with me…go figure!
Mostly he reminds me that life goes on as goofy as it all is!
Find some JOY for yourself today. Get out of your rational mind and go do something crazy!
