Let’s hear it for democracy in action! The people spoke loud and clear yesterday, and with little uncertainty. Now we must all find the courage to hope and work for a better America!
Barack Obama’s campaign for president is an amazing example of the audacity of hope in our country today. How many of us would have had the courage to run for the highest office in the country if we were African-American?
This should inspire each and every one of us to believe in ourselves and the promise of our future. In an interview about his book, The Audacity of Hope, Obama was asked what one idea did he wish all would take away from reading it.
Here’s his response: “Get involved in an issue that you’re passionate about. It almost doesn’t matter what it is–improving the school system, developing strategies to wean ourselves off foreign oil, expanding health care for kids. We give too much of our power away, to the professional politicians, to the lobbyists, to cynicism. And our democracy suffers as a result.”
My response to this amazing election is to encourage you to get involved in improving your own life and, in that way, improve the lives of those around you! We have so much to do, but it all starts at home.
Have the audacity to believe in yourself and your full potential. Have the self-respect to step up and dream your best future now!
YES YOU CAN!
