“Prediction is difficult, especially about the future!” -Yogi Berra
The day has finally arrived. Today, if predictions are correct, 21 million more Americans will cast a vote than voted in the 2004 election. Now that’s democracy in action!
Why so many more voters? I think it is because some of us have lost all hope, and others have found it.
For some, there is no future unless things change drastically in America. Some will not live four more years without proper health care or an improved economy. They have the needed incentive to vote!
For others, who haven’t voted in years if not decades, there is new reason for hope. For once the candidates don’t all look alike (literally!) with the certainty that nothing will ever change in our country.
I hope there is still time for our country to change in big ways. The old ways are dead, and now I think most of us are willing to admit it. The world has changed around us and it’s high time we caught up!
Please go vote! My rule is if you don’t vote, you don’t get to complain about what happens after election day. Believe in our shared future enough to have your voice heard and your vote count!
