If ignorance is bliss, then the U.S. is looking too much like utopia!!!

Are you, by any chance, feeling as disgusted as I am about American politics?

I am reminded of a well known quote from Adlai Stevenson when he ran for president: “Well, we have the thinking man’s vote, but unfortunately, we need a majority.”

It seems that Americans just don’t get it. It’s looking a lot like the fall of Rome or the British Empire out there to me, and yet we sit on our hands or keep cheering for the good old days.

News flash, these are not the good old days in America and they ain’t coming back, no matter how much we pretend or hope so. I think we’ve started to put all of our faith in “The Secret.” The real secret is wishing don’t make it so!

This is a truly global economy now and nobody else really cares if we decide to run ourselves into the ground. They would love to see us fail. They would love to take over total market share of everything sold in the world.

So it’s “Country First” is it? Who truly believes in “Country First” and chooses a poorly-educated pentecostal mayor for vice-president? Don’t forget, these are the same nuts that brought you speaking in tongues and looking forward to “the end of times.” Sarah said in one of her church videos that Iraq is “God’s war” and that is why she feels so good about sending her son over there.

Do we really want someone with their finger on the “end of the world” button who thinks it’s about time she and her family took off for heaven? I for one don’t want that kind of rapture-happy religious fanatic in charge of my future.

Now, Sarah Barracuda is apparently looking forward to taking charge of our energy policy. Is there any chance that those who have been involved in the study of our use of energy for, say, the past 30 years might know more about the mistakes we’ve made in the past. Do you know about the work of the Aspen Institute? Go read about it. These are the kinds of experts who could help dig us out of this colossal mess we are in, not a woman who knows nothing and won’t even admit it!

And please, don’t start with the “woman” argument with me. I guess my greatest frustration is that we can never choose the best and brightest when the country really needs it. But then, I know the old white guys would feel mighty threatened with a woman as intelligent, well-educated and qualified as say, Barack Obama.

They enjoy dragging out the old beauty queen to see if that will fly. It seems she’s already threatening enough to the old white guy who is supposedly in charge. Would somebody please inform silly Wasilla Sarah, there wasn’t even the term “sexist” until the women’s movement created it in the late 1960s!

It’s not like this country doesn’t have an army of well-educated experts on any topic. It’s just that we are stupid enough to not listen to them. These kind of civilizations don’t make it. Ask the Romans, if you can find one.
